Water Treatment For Ships’ Ballast

The term “silver bullet” has been adopted into a general metaphor which refers to any straightforward solution perceived to have extreme effectiveness. The phrase typically appears with an expectation that some new technological development or practice will easily cure a major prevailing problem.

The threat of exotic species invading local waterways is quickly becoming one of the greatest causes of environmental alarm in the world of the 21^st century.  Exotic species large and small, facing none of their natural predators, can damage local ecosystems in disastrous and irreparable ways.

Silver Bullet Solution is an environmental company that specializes in the treatment of ballast water in ocean-going vessels in order to prevent the transportation of exotic, non-indigenous (and possibly pathogenic) marine animals. 

This is accomplished through the introduction of chloramines into the vessels’ ballast tanks in order to annihilate the macro and micro-organisms, followed by a reducing agent in order to eliminate all toxic elements contained in the water by transforming them into non-toxic byproducts.  Finally, before the water is discharged, oxygen is introduced in order to remove excess reducing agent, as well as provide oxygen for the aquatic species in the receiving water.
